Taylor Farms Recalls Jalapeño Products in 26 States After Salmonella Outbreak Sickens 345

Taylor Fresh Foods issued a voluntary recall of dozens of products containing jalapeño peppers in August 2026 after federal health officials linked the peppers to a multistate Salmonella outbreak that sickened 345 people and hospitalized 36.

The FDA and CDC traced the outbreak to fresh jalapeños imported from a farm in Sinaloa, Mexico, by Coast Citrus Distributors. The importer recalled the peppers, triggering downstream recalls from Taylor Farms and other manufacturers.

Taylor Farms recalled products distributed to retail centers in 26 states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Massachusetts, Maine, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Wisconsin, and West Virginia.

Recalled items included mild, medium, and spicy salsas, pico de gallo, pineapple mango salsa, salsa verde, spicy guacamole, authentic guacamole, taco dip, spicy Jarlsberg dip, spicy pimento cheese dip, rice and bean burritos, spicy roast beef sandwiches, and fiesta style salad with shrimp. All recalled products carried "Best If Used By" dates up to and including August 16, 2026.

The products were sold at Walmart, Kroger, Target, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, Hannaford, and Stop and Shop. Chipotle and QDOBA also received the affected jalapeños but stopped using them in late July 2026. The FDA said there was no ongoing risk from those restaurants.

Taylor Farms said it stopped sourcing from the involved farm and switched to alternative suppliers. Health authorities advised consumers to discard any recalled products immediately.

The outbreak caused 345 confirmed illnesses across 27 states. The last reported illness onset was July 20, 2026. No deaths were reported.
