President Donald Trump joined approximately 500 political leaders, pastors, and celebrities at the Museum of the Bible in Washington, D.C., for a week-long public Bible reading event called "America Reads the Bible."

Trump read from 2 Chronicles 7:11-22, a passage describing God's appearance to Solomon. The verse has been cited repeatedly during his presidency, including by Billy Graham's daughter in 2016.

The event was organized by Bunni Pound, founder of Christians Engaged and a leader with the Family Policy Alliance Foundation. Organizers said the goal was to encourage daily Bible reading as the country marks its 250th anniversary.

Participants read from the Bible in 12-hour sessions throughout the week. The event drew a mix of elected officials, faith leaders, and public figures.

The gathering comes as Trump has faced criticism from Pope Leo XIV over his stance on the Iran conflict. The Pope, currently on an 11-day visit to Africa, said his calls for peace were not directed at Trump personally and that debating the president was "not my interest at all."

Christians Engaged, which focuses on civic engagement among believers, said the event was meant to reconnect Americans with the country's founding documents and faith traditions.
