Reports indicate that more than 3,500 Christians were killed by Islamic militants in 2025, with some estimates placing the figure as high as 7,000. The movement is organizing a 7-hour solemn assembly, running from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM West Africa Time.
Gatherings are planned across all 36 Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory, as well as diaspora locations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Zimbabwe. Organizers describe the event as a call for believers to fast, pray, and repent for the nation's safety and future.
CBN News has reported on the event, noting that Joel Veldkamp of Christian Solidarity International has continued to highlight Nigeria as one of the most dangerous places for Christians globally.
The prayer day is separate from the World Day of Prayer, which focused on Nigeria earlier in 2026 on March 6. That event, organized by the World Day of Prayer Committee of Nigeria, carried the theme "I Will Give You Rest: Come," based on Matthew 11:28-30.
