Philadelphia Teens Learn Investing and Credit from Wharton Faculty at Free Financial Summit

A free Teen Financial Empowerment Summit for Philadelphia-area high school students is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Holiday Inn Philadelphia Airport, Stadium Area, located at 2033 Penrose Ave.

The event features faculty from the Wharton School, including David Musto, PhD, and Pitou Devgon, MD, MBA, alongside professionals from Goldman Sachs, including Sofia Bonito and Greg Bankowski.

Sessions cover paying for college, using credit wisely, investing, managing first paychecks, and starting a business. The day concludes with the "F3 Financial Ideathon," where students work in teams to solve real-world financial challenges and present their solutions to a panel for the chance to win prizes.

Admission is free and includes lunch and complimentary parking validation. Space is limited and advance registration is recommended.

The summit comes as financial literacy scores among young Americans continue to decline. Data from the 2026 TIAA Institute-GFLEC Personal Finance Index found that Americans correctly answered less than half of the index's questions on average. Among Gen Z, scores have hit their lowest recorded levels.

As of 2026, 39 states have implemented mandates requiring students to complete a personal finance course for high school graduation. Experts say hands-on events like this summit help students connect abstract financial concepts to real decisions they will face within months of leaving school.
